Non-Grip U bolts are typical of the stock we hold, however, “grip U bolts” can be ordered in, to the size and specification of your requirement. Non-Grip U bolts we stock, are used as attachments to pipes and bars where vibration and movement occur. Because the U bolts are non-grip, this allows longitudinal movement of the application. The size range we offer from stock is ½”NB to 4”NB (nominal bore). The general grade of the U bolts stocked is mild steel, we can offer three different types of finishes from our stock; Stainless steel grade 304, Galvanised mild steel and zinc-plated mild steel. Custom U Bolts to drawing or customer specification are available to be manufactured to order.
A common question engineers and tradesman ask is how to measure a U-bolt. Regardless of the bend type, all U-bolts are measured in the same manner as shown here. The U-bolt size is given as Diameter (A) x Distance Between Legs (B) x Leg Length (C). In addition, the bend type must be specified. The bend type would either be round, semi round or square. It is advised that U-bolts should not be used more than once for different applications because rust and alteration in the threads due to wear can cause problems during installation. A big issue with U-bolts for end users is finding out what size nominal bore U-bolt they require to fit the pipe. The nominal bore of a U-bolt will be bigger than the outside diameter of the pipes wall to ensure the U-bolt fits and is correctly supports the pipe. The outside diameter of a pipe is the size of the outside of the pipes wall. The nominal bore of a pipe is the inside diameter of the pipes bore.
