Leanne, (our Office Manager) started work at Leyton Fasteners in 1991. it was also the year of the Gulf War, John Major was Prime Minister, the first web browser was announced for the internet and Simply Red had the best selling album! Fashion wasn’t exactly a highpoint, with neon colours becoming popular, along with Bomber jackets, leggings and power dressing. 1991 was also the year of “silence of the lambs” and Sonic the hedgehog.
Having said that, at the end of September, Leyton Fasteners have been open 40years, having opened in 1980. Initially started by the Yardley’s, ownership moved to the current owners in 2012. 2006 saw our first website, followed by a web shop in 2015. Whilst fashions come and go, competitors and customers change, 2017-18 have seen massive change, with digital media now driving our business – however, we always like to talk to our customers!
So we asked Leanne what has changed over the years – “I’ve seen plenty of changes over the years – some good some not so! Old Customers gone, new customers appear, staff come and go, purchase patterns change, product popularity has changed, less manufacturing more variety. We started selling more metric than imperial, although the trend is swinging back to imperial (which we stock)! We’ve seen more material and grade options to choose from, which all adds complexity and stock management! We have more payment types for customers, cards, cash (hardly ever) and Bank transfer. We now type rather than write….but one thing has always stayed the same….Leyton’s quality and service!”
