One of the “spin off” benefits of installing a new computer system is that you have to sort out and organise your stock. When you’ve been in business for 40 years there is always a raft of stock, which is obsolete or just plain unfashionable. At times like these, most businesses take the “easy” route and scrap the obsolete stuff and get it off the books!
As fasteners experts, we take a radically different view! We have ensured that all the interesting, obsolete and unfashionable fasteners are kept in stock, in the belief that there will be someone, somewhere who needs it. We had a customer recently who told us that he has been working with a major London based transport company and, similar to many industries, they are still big users of Whitworth fasteners. I guess when you’ve been in business for many years, some of the kit and plant will still be around and working….and need maintenance.
As a result, we have kept a section of our stockroom for obsolete stock, whether it is imperial sizes, brass fasteners or simply stock which hasn’t moved for a while, we intend to keep it, in good condition, available for sale.
We continue to supply imperial sizes to a number of our manufacturing and maintenance customers, with our own supplies “on the shelf” as well as strong ties with suppliers, who can source a variety of sizes and materials.
