Over the last 40 years fashions have changed, ideas and technology move forward and fasteners, like everything else, move in and out of vogue. However, as with most things in life, if you wait long enough it comes back into fashion, as we are finding with our brass “collection”.
I remember talk, a couple of years ago, of sending it to the scrap man; thank goodness we kept it, as some of it is becoming “hot stock”. It really is surprising the customers who take whitworth, for machines which have been operating since pre war. Our sister website, Leyton Classics sells to the classic car and bike fraternity; similarly there is an uptick in the demand for obsolete kit.
As a result of the resurgence of interest in brass, we have been gradually adding our “obsolete and hard to find” stock to the computerised stock list, to ensure we know what we really have in stock…. in the process uncovering some real gems! Over the years staff change and stock gets forgotten, hence, we will gradually enhance our “back catalogue”.
Where would you find 3/8 whitworth brass dome nuts, well we have found a customer for them who tells me he literally cannot find them anywhere else! What about brass 2BA screws, once used by electricians, but now a “hard to find. We’ve “cheese head” machine screws, countersunk screws in a variety of sizes, how about hex sets from M4 X 25 to as big as M16 X 90, all in brass.
We’ve wing nuts, castle nuts, chrome plated cheese head machine screws and lots of other “oddballs”. We’ve also found some interesting sized brass studding, which we are just about to add to our stock lists.
We’ve kept the pricing of much of our brass fasteners at highly competitive levels.
