Threaded rod, also commonly referred to as allthread or stud bar, features a straight length of bar with threads all the way along. Generally available in longer lengths than headed fasteners, allthread is a useful way of being able to provide the same stability of a bolt to an application without the struggle and cost of sourcing unusually long bolts.
The standard tensile strength of steel stud bar is 4.6, though other grades such as 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 are also commonly available. Typical finishes in steel include bright zinc plated, self-colour and hot dip galvanised, though others are available upon request.
Stainless steel is another widely used material for threaded bar. Particularly useful in outdoor applications, allthread is most commonly found in A2 grade and A4 marine grade stainless with both providing greater corrosion resistance in varying weather conditions than steel. Other standard materials for stud bar include brass, aluminium and B7 grade high tensile steel, with many others also available via our specialist manufacturers.
The most common lengths of threaded bar are 1 metre long in metric threads and 3 feet, or 36 inches, in imperial sizes. Metric sizes can range anywhere from M2 upwards in standard thread pitch, with metric fine and metric extra fine threads also available in larger diameters. Imperial sizes start from 1/8” upwards, in threads such as UNC, UNF, BSW, BSF, with UN the most common thread for diameters greater than 1 inch.
In addition to 1 metre long, threaded studs are also available in 2 and 3 metre lengths and can even be cut shorter to any length required. Allthread is compatible with equivalent nuts and washers so can be tailored to suit any application.
Given the flexibility offered with materials and sizing, stud bar can be used in a number of different industries including construction, engineering, pipework and marine applications. Aside from the usual instances where studs and nuts are used, studding can also be used in partnership with resin to create a bond in the floor to create a high strength concrete fixing.
