Cable Ties – A Truly Amazing Invention

Since their invention in 1958, cable ties have been used as fasteners to ‘hold’ objects together.  Thomas Betts Electrical Company initially designed and invented the product to be used as airplane wire harnesses.  The original cable tie appeared Nylon plastic with a steel Pawl attached, but manufacturing was time consuming as well as inefficient due to two processes, moulding and assembly of the steel Pawl.  This meant it was time for a change.  The change came in 1968 where production started, after years of planning, of the first nylon self-locking cable ties.  Efficient manufacturing was this time achieved and production costs were reduced substantially.

We stock standard nylon cable ties.  Sizes available from stock in black include: 2.5 X 100, 2.5 X 200, 3.6 X 140, 3.6 X 200, 3.6 X 300, 4.8 X 160, 4.8 X 200, 4.8 X 300, 4.8 X 370 besides 9 X 530.  Natural (white) coloured cable ties are available from stock in sizes: 2.5 X 100, 2.5 X 200, 3.2 X 142, 3.6 X 140, 3.6 X 300, 4.8 X 160 along with 4.8 X 370.  Any other colours and sizes required can be quoted at current price and availability.  Stainless steel cable ties aren’t stocked by us but can be obtained, if required.

The continued evolution of cable ties, over the years, has seen many different designs made available to suit the requirements of a vast number of applications.  Cable ties are used for countless types of jobs, both for DIY and industry.  Straightforward jobs include keeping two objects together or securing something closed.  People use stainless steel cable ties for external applications where corrosion and weather resistance is critical.
